Ruby and James Howorth discuss the origins of their farm; social life including weddings, music, chautauquas and dance parties; farm machinery and chores; crop and livestock losses due to hail, drought, diseases and pests; livestock and cash crops; the effects of the Depression on farmers; farmers' holidays; prohibition; women voting; discriminations against Germans and other groups during World War I; teaching in a one-room schoolhouse; anecdotes about gypsies passing through town; etc.
